Complex Systems sistemas complexos e a arte The project is divided into the following topics:
Science and art: It is intended to develop a historical-philosophical argumentation that contextualize the creative process in the scope of the study of complex systems. Not wanting to reduce artistic activity to the possible art / science relationship, possible symbioses between scientific and artistic research will be deepened. At this point practice is developed in the following topics:
Mathematics: Mathematics as an artistic expression.
The representation of mathematical objects: The visual representation of mathematical objects.
The chaotic pendulum: The movement, the dance, the music. The non-linear oscillation: pure sound / noise. The periodic, the compass and the aperiodic. The rhythm. The measure of complexity and complexity expressed.
The element and the pattern: local interaction, global phenomenon. The cell, the mosaic, the tile. The cellular automata, the organism. Evolutionary dynamics, algorithms and genetic processes.
The landscape: The natural / artificial. Dynamics in the landscape, flows of matter, energy and information. The geometric design and the proportion.
Utopias: thought and speculative action.
The being, the heteronym and the complex: The complexity in the literary creation and the theatrical representation
Critique: Creation of a discourse and critical argument, related to the developments of previous topics. |

Landscape on hyperbolic plane Marta Riera, Carlos Ramos September 2010
Description: This is a sculpture, with approximate 3m of diameter, placed in Son Blai, Maiorca, Spain. It grew from a sketch of the hyperbolic plane (Poincaré disc), superposing successive layers of clay, limestone and sand.
Technique: Use of clay with different iron oxide levels, limestone and sand.
